Blight Remediation and City-wide Beautification
Addressing it requires a multi-faceted approach that involves government, community organizations, and property owners. in 2023 I identified the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing as a means to help us develop lasting policies to address blight in St Marys.
Blight remediation involves a focused effort on addressing the abandoned or deteriorated properties here in St Marys. We would have to include government intervention through tactics such as land banking, tax incentives, and code enforcement; community empowerment through neighborhood associations and green spaces; property-level solutions such as rehabilitation, demolition, and new construction; and strategic use of data to inform decision-making. Successful blight remediation often requires collaboration between government, nonprofits, and the private sector to achieve long-term impact.
Our participation in the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing will help us reach this goal.
